Gabby Young & Other Animals: Headliners with Serious Style

Almost impossible to pin down and all the better for it — Gabby Young & Other Animals sit comfortably outside neat genre boxes.
Fronted by British singer-songwriter, guitarist and bandleader Gabby Young, their sound pulls together gypsy folk, pop, rock, jazz and cabaret into something bold, playful and unmistakably their own.
BBC 6Music put it simply:
“Howling mad and completely irresistible.”
A Proper Musical Pedigree
Gabby Young is no accidental frontwoman. She was the youngest member of the British National Youth Opera at just twelve years old, and grew up learning piano, violin and saxophone alongside her vocal training. That classical grounding underpins a songwriting style that’s inventive, theatrical and confident, with songs that move easily between light and dark, fast and slow.
Acclaim, Crowds and Big Stages
Her debut album, We’re All In This Together, received four stars from The Guardian, who described Young as:
“A versatile, classically trained singer and an inventive, surprising songwriter with a barrage of global influences.”
Gabby Young & Other Animals have played at major venues and festivals including The Barbican, South by Southwest, Canadian Music Week, and toured across Japan and Australia, building a reputation for distinctive live performances and a sound that refuses to sit still.
A Quieter Chapter — and a Return to the Stage
In recent years, Gabby took a step back from regular touring to focus on life closer to home. Now based in Devon, she spent time raising her daughter, building a warm and creative family life, and writing through Gabberdashery, a sewing blog and vlog and that Gabby started it because she sewed all her own stage clothes, then got fully immersed
She’s now back performing live with the Other Animals, reconnecting with audiences and clearly loving being on stage again. The band operate as a true ensemble, featuring a broad mix of instruments, including brass and a solid rhythm section.
Why This Set Matters
This is an act that knows how to play to a festival audience. The songs are strong, the musicianship is tight, and there’s a natural flow between moments made for dancing and those that invite you to stop and listen.
Gabby Young & Other Animals make music that works across generations — characterful, energetic and full of personality. We are incredibly lucky to have her and the band at Lil Giant Fest, and can’t wait to see them bring their sound to the Dorset countryside.
Expect a headline set built on incredible songs, confident performances and a truly theatrical presence.
